Chairman Alvarez Named to National Association of Counties Subcommittee on Homeland Security

WASHINGTON, DC – National Association of Counties (NACo) President Greg Cox appointed Sullivan County Legislature Chairman Luis Alvarez to a one-year term as a subcommittee vice chair focusing on homeland security on NACo’s Justice and Public Safety Policy Steering Committee.

Cox, a San Diego County, Calif. supervisor, made his leadership appointments shortly after being sworn in as NACo’s president on July 16, the final day of NACo’s 83rd Annual Conference and Exposition in Nashville/Davidson County, Tenn.

“I am honored to serve in this leadership role at NACo, as counties are major owners and operators of the nation’s justice and public safety systems,” Hall said. “We are looking forward to advancing the mission of keeping America’s counties healthy, vibrant and safe.”

The Justice and Public Safety Policy Steering Committee is responsible for NACo policy on all matters pertaining to criminal justice and public safety systems, including ?criminal justice planning, law enforcement, courts, corrections, homeland security, community crime prevention, juvenile justice and delinquency prevention, emergency management, fire prevention and control and civil disturbances.?????????????????????????????

“I thank President Cox for his decision to appoint me to this important subcommittee,” Chairman Alvarez stated. “As a retired police officer, our Nation’s security is of utmost concern to me, and I look forward to adding my voice to these critical discussions.”

Active in NACo since 2016, Alvarez currently serves on the NACo Board of Directors and is an alumnus of NACo’s County Leadership Institute. He also serves as a member of NACo’s Immigration Reform Task Force.
