County Manager Reactivates State of Emergency for Southern Part of Sullivan

Monticello, NY – Sullivan County Manager Joshua Potosek has reactivated a State of Emergency for the towns of Forestburgh, Highland, Lumberland and Tusten in southern Sullivan County effective immediately until 2:00 P.M. Sunday, March 4, 2018, due to significant ongoing impacts from yesterday's nor’easter.

“I have reactivated the State of Emergency in these parts of Sullivan County to ensure the safety of County residents,” said Potosek. “Due to the heavy, wet snow and windy conditions during and after the blizzard, many roads remain impassable due to fallen trees and downed powerlines, and communications and power systems are suffering outages.”

More than 30 streets and roads are closed in these areas, mostly due to wires and limbs. That's why the State of Emergency will last from now until tomorrow at 2 p.m. The County's Emergency Operations Center has also been opened in White Lake, where County, state and utilities representatives are coordinating efforts.

The declaration bans travel on County and local roads in the areas of Forestburgh, Glen Spey, Pond Eddy, Eldred, Yulan, Barryville and Narrowsburg. This prohibition does not apply to vehicles engaged in road maintenance due to the storm or those traveling to or from their jobs in relation to these duties, along with medical and healthcare personnel, public employees designated as essential personnel, utility operators and repair personnel, and volunteers or employees of non-profit organizations providing emergency assistance associated with the storm.
