Fees Reduced, Saturday Hours Expanded, Coupons Replacing Cash at Transfer Stations

Monticello, NY – Sullivan County has made three important improvements to the Solid Waste and Recycling program, effective September 1, 2017:

1. REDUCTION IN COST: Our per-bag rate for residential bag disposal has been  simplified.  We now accept residential bagged garbage at the flat rate of $2 per bag (30 gallons or less) and have eliminated the requirement for garbage to be in certain colored or clear bags.   The opaque bag charge has been reduced from $4 to $2.
2. EXPANSION OF SATURDAY HOURS: The Monticello Transfer Station will now be open on Saturday a full day from 7:45 a.m. until 2:45 p.m. for residential bagged waste customers only.  The scale continues to close at 11 a.m.  Previously, Saturday hours were limited to the morning only.
3. QUICKER SERVICE: Residential bagged garbage will be paid for by coupon books ONLY.  Cash will no longer be accepted for bagged residential garbage.  Coupon books are available in increments of 5 coupons for $10 and 15 coupons for $30.  Only one coupon is required per bag regardless of the color of the bag. Coupon books can be purchased via credit card, check or cash.

Remember that most recycling is at NO CHARGE and is required by law.

“Our Solid Waste & Recycling crew is constantly seeking ways to improve services to residents and businesses, and these new Legislature-approved initiatives will make trips to our transfer stations faster and more cost-effective,” District 7 Legislator and Public Works Committee Chair Joe Perrello explained.
