Fraud Task Force Announces Arrests

Liberty, NY – The Sullivan County Welfare Fraud Task Force has made the following arrests:

Kari Price

  • January 30 – Kari L. Price, 35, of Glen Spey was arrested and charged with the Class E Felony of Welfare Fraud in the Fifth Degree and the Class E Felony of Offering a False Instrument for Filing in the First Degree. It is alleged that Price stole $980 in heating assistance benefits by failing to disclose that the father of her children was living with her. Price was released on an appearance ticket to appear in the Town of Liberty Court at a later date.

Juliana Stowers-Lopez

  • January 31 – Juliana Stowers-Lopez, 35, of Jeffersonville was arrested and charged with the Class D Felony of Grand Larceny in the Third Degree and the Class E Felonies of Welfare Fraud in the Fourth Degree and Offering a False Instrument for Filing in the First Degree. A joint investigation conducted by members of the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services Office of Inspector General’s Office, New York Office of Medicaid Inspector General and Sullivan County Welfare Fraud Task Force resulted in the allegation that Stowers-Lopez stole $13,965.84 in Medicaid medical assistance by submitting fraudulent claims and $1,045 in SNAP benefits by failing to report household income. Stowers-Lopez was released on an appearance ticket to appear in the Town of Liberty Court at a later date.

Nelson Lopez

  • January 31 – Nelson D. Lopez, 34, of Jeffersonville was arrested and charged with the Class D Felony of Grand Larceny in the Third Degree and Offering a False Instrument for Filing in the First Degree. A joint investigation conducted by members of the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services Office of Inspector General’s Office, New York Office of Medicaid Inspector General and Sullivan County Welfare Fraud Task Force resulted in the allegation that Lopez stole $13,965.84 in Medicaid medical assistance by submitting fraudulent claims. Lopez was released on an appearance ticket to appear in the Town of Liberty Court at a later date.

Travis Holman

  • February 5 – Travis R. Holman, 28, of Monticello was arrested and charged with the Class E Felony of Offering a False Instrument for Filing in the First Degree and the Class A Misdemeanor of Welfare Fraud in the Fifth Degree. It is alleged that Holman stole $911 in SNAP benefits by failing to disclose that he was employed at McDonald’s. Holman was released on an appearance ticket to appear in the Town of Liberty Court at a later date.

Dawn Pierce-Alvarez

  • February 11 – Dawn P. Pierce-Alvarez, 54, of Loch Sheldrake was arrested and charged with the Class E Felony of Offering a False Instrument for Filing in the First Degree. It is alleged that Pierce-Alvarez stole $795.44 in publicly funded Medicaid medical transportation by using Medicaid transportation for non-medical purposes. Pierce-Alvarez was issued an appearance ticket to appear in the Town of Liberty Court at a later date.

Angelica Sullivan

  • February 14 – Angelica M. Sullivan, 23, of Ellenville was arrested and charged with the Class E Felonies of Welfare Fraud in the Fourth Degree and Offering a False Instrument for Filing in the First Degree. It is alleged that Sullivan stole $2,042 in SNAP benefits by failing to accurately report her household composition and income. Sullivan was issued an appearance ticket to appear in the Town of Liberty Court at a later date.

Jimmy Scott

  • February 20 – Jimmy L. Scott, 55, of Monticello was arrested and charged with the Class E Felony of Offering a False Instrument for Filing in the First Degree and the Class A Misdemeanor of Welfare Fraud in the Fifth Degree. It is alleged that Scott stole $351 in HEAP benefits by altering his apartment lease to conceal the fact that his girlfriend was living with him and by failing to accurately report household composition. Scott was issued an appearance ticket to appear in the Town of Liberty Court at a later date.
