Fun and Facts to Mix at Celebration of International Human Rights

Monticello, NY – The Sullivan County Human Rights Commission invites young people ages 3-13 and their families to an interactive celebration of the 70th anniversary of the International Declaration of Human Rights.

Fun and educational, the celebration will run from 1-3:30 p.m. on Sunday, December 9 (the day before International Human Rights Day) at the Ted Stroebele Center, 10 Jefferson Street, Monticello.

“Come take a trip throughout the world of human rights, adding a sticker to your ‘passport’ for each activity that focuses on the 30 Articles of the Declaration,” offers Executive Director Ari Mir-Pontier. “The first 100 children to complete all activities will get a ‘goodie bag’ to take home!”

Activities will include “Build Your Jumbo Jenga of Rights,” “Express Yourself with Spoken Word and Rap,” “Fish for Your Rights,” “Hopscotch for Humanity,” “Puppet Theatre for Respect and Kindness,” and more. Music and refreshments will also be offered.

Adults won’t be forgotten either, as a special “Cop Café” will allow grownups to discuss concerns with local law enforcement representatives.

The event is completely free. Hablamos español! For more info, the Sullivan County Human Rights Commission can be reached at 845-807-0189.
