Museum Kicks Off Red Cross Month with Exhibit and Concert

Red Cross march in Livingston Manor

Livingston Manor saw people march in support of the Red Cross in the early 20th century.

Hurleyville, NY – March is National Red Cross Month, and The Sullivan County Historical Society invites everyone to the opening of the new exhibition at the Sullivan County Museum in Hurleyville, “Remembering the Red Cross.”

Opening Sunday, March 3, at noon, the exhibition consists of antique photos, prints and memorabilia from the Red Cross, on loan from several Sullivan County residents. Red Cross representatives will be on hand to distribute free emergency information kits and to discuss volunteer opportunities in the community.

To honor the collaborative humanitarian purpose of the Red Cross, the Sullivan County Museum will be collecting non-perishable food items and toiletries for the local food pantry.

Then, at 2 p.m., a free concert by local rhythm and blues musicians the Allen Brothers will take place in the auditorium. The concert will feature Cecil Allen on guitar, Buddy Allen on sax, and Little Sparrow, hosting the concert.

The Museum is located at 265 Main Street, Hurleyville. The Red Cross exhibit runs through March 31, and the Museum will be collecting food donations all month.
