Sullivan County Offices to Close for National Day of Mourning

Monticello, NY – In recognition of the federally declared National Day of Mourning upon the passing of former President George H.W. Bush, all non-essential Sullivan County Government offices will be closed on Wednesday, December 5.

“The entire nation will pause that day to reflect upon the legacy of one of our great leaders,” affirmed Sullivan County Legislature Chairman Luis Alvarez. “We will join a fitting tribute to a man who made a lasting mark on this country.”

The Government Center, Social Services Complex and all transfer stations will be closed Wednesday, reopening on Thursday. Essential facilities like the 911 Center, Sheriff’s Office and Care Center at Sunset Lake will continue to be staffed and operate normally.

All federal government offices will be closed on Wednesday, as will the New York Stock Exchange and NASDAQ. Most of Sullivan County’s collective bargaining agreements, covering the majority of County workers, also stipulate that employees do not work on a National Day of Mourning.
