Catskills' Jazz Fixture to Perform and Reminisce at County Museum

Freddie Jacobs

Hurleyville, NY – This month, the Sullivan County Historical Society’s “Music and History” series will present live jazz and stories with trumpeter Freddie Jacobs.

Freddie Jacobs is a composer, educator and jazz trumpeter who has seen the music business from many sides. He has toured with jazz legends Lionel Hampton, Buddy Rich, Eddie Palmieri and Jimmy McGriff, and performed around New York with the Sam Jones/Tom Harrell Band, Nina Sheldon, Judi Silvano, and Pucho and the Latin Soul Brothers.

His style “sounds as bright and assured as Freddie Hubbard or Woody Shaw, but with verve and a smooth, fluent originality,” said Robert Spencer in “All About Jazz.” Jacobs has written and produced two records, “Time Change” and “Jacobs’ Ladder.”

Along with the performance, Jacobs will talk a bit about his experience performing in the legendary Catskills hotels. He will be joined by keyboardist Peter Tomlinson.

The event will be held at the Sullivan County Museum, 265 Main Street, Hurleyville, on Sunday, November 4, from 2-3 p.m. Local band Little Sparrow will host the afternoon.

The program is free and made possible with funding from a Sullivan County Arts and Heritage Grant, funded by the Sullivan County Legislature and administered by the Delaware Valley Arts Alliance. Donations are nevertheless welcome. Call 845-434-8044 for more info, or visit the Sullivan County Historical Society website at www.scnyhistory.com.
