Enjoy Outdoor Art and a Hike This Weekend

One of many rocky overhangs at the Minisink Battleground Park

Barryville, NY – The Sullivan County Human Rights Commission, in partnership with the Barryville Area Arts Association, will  co-host “Plein Air on the Rocks,” an outdoor art reception to celebrate diversity, beauty, history and the contributions of early settlers during a Revolutionary War battle near Barryville in 1779.

The art reception and a guided hike will take place on Saturday, September 29, at the Minisink Battleground Park from 1-3 p.m., where local artists will display their Plein Air paintings of local rock formations. The park is located on County Route 168 in the hamlet of Minisink Ford, northwest of Barryville, just a short drive from State Route 97 and the Roebling Bridge.

The historical relevance of the Battleground’s rock formations will be explained during the moderate hike led by local volunteer Glenn Pontier. Light refreshments will be served under the pavilion. Comfortable walking shoes are recommended.
