While Sullivan County park grounds and trails are currently open, New Yorkers are encouraged to stay home during this public health crisis. Many park facilities including playgrounds, picnic areas, restrooms and facilities are closed. Groups over 10 people are prohibited.  If you do plan on visiting, visit parks close to home, avoid crowded areas, and wear face coverings where you cannot maintain safe social distance.

Lake Superior State Park:

Update:  Independence Day Holiday Weekend

Lake Superior State Park in Bethel, operated by Sullivan County, will temporarily close for the July 4 weekend, starting the evening of Thursday, July 2 and running through the morning of Monday, July 6.

“Since the beach has not opened this season, we decided to take this action in order to minimize issues with crowds and revelers at the park for the Independence Day holiday,” Parks Director Brian Scardefield explains. “We’re sorry for any inconvenience, but during this unprecedented time, we’re choosing a prudent and cautious path.”

The parking lot, swimming beach, dock area and boat launch will all be closed, with regular patrols to ensure compliance. The small parking, walking and picnic area near Lake Superior’s dam will remain open.

Fort Delaware Museum of Colonial History:  Currently Closed

Sullivan County Museum and Cultural Center:  Currently closed.  For information on the Sullivan County Historical Society please visit their Facebook page and website www.scnyhistory.org.

Group Pinic Permits:  The Park and Recreation Office is currently NOT accepting applications.  All requests for park usage, including public gatherings and education programs, are canceled. The Office of Parks, Recreation and Beautification will work with all park permit holders to issue a full refund or reschedule events. The Office will remain open to phone calls and emails but will not accept any new park permit requests for the time being.

Park and Recreation Office:  Closed to the public.  Please email scparks@co.sullivan.ny.us or call 845-807-0287 for further information.
