Plenty to Enjoy at County Museum

Hurleyville, NY – The First Sunday Music and History Program began a year and a half ago, in a small side gallery of the Sullivan County Museum. The Sullivan County Historical Society and the County invited some special guitarists who performed ‘60s music and talked about their personal experiences in the Woodstock. By the third month, First Sunday had become so successful that it moved to the Museum’s main auditorium.

There will be no April program, however. The BOCES children’s art exhibition has filled up the auditorium and runs through April 9.The good news is that First Sunday will continue in May and the rest of the year.

The Historical Society has meanwhile mounted a special Red Cross exhibition, which includes antique prints, photographs and items from personal collections of Sullivan County residents.

And finally, in cooperation with the Historical Society, County Historian John Conway will offer a six-week course titled “The History of Sullivan County, Part III.” The class is a completely new curriculum, beginning Wednesday, April 10 from 6-7:30 p.m., running at the same time for the following five Wednesdays, through May 15.

As this program is a fundraiser for the nonprofit history education group The Delaware Company, the cost is $60 for 6 classes or $10 per class – pre-registration by March 31 is required. The classes will be held at the Sullivan County Museum, 265 Main Street, Hurleyville.
