Popular Theme Tree Exhibition Returns with a Holiday Craft Fair

Patriot Art's Matt Lare

Matt Lare of Patriot Art will be one of the vendors at the December 5 Holiday Craft Fair in Hurleyville.

Hurleyville, NY – Hard as it may be to believe, the Sullivan County Historical Society has been hosting an annual Open House and Theme Tree Exhibition at the Sullivan County Cultural Center in Hurleyville for over 33 years!

The tradition began in 1987 as a way to bring the community together, by inviting local businesses and individuals to display decorated holiday trees in the Museum’s auditorium.

Last year’s lockdown kept everyone home, but organizers are happy to be back! And they’re adding live music by Little Sparrow and a Holiday Craft Fair.

It’s a family event, with free admission, refreshments and something for everyone. The craft show will feature some of Sullivan County’s finest artists, including hand-painted doves by Tialisa Whipple, Jewelry by Billie Robson, and hand-carved, painted wooden flags by Matthew Lare of Patriot Art.

Along with the craft artists, two local authors will be on hand selling and signing books:

  • Kim Simons, Sullivan County resident and award-winning author of the gluten-free cookbook “Get All Cook-Y with Kim.” She will be sharing the secrets of a cake recipe that won Food Network’s “Holiday Cake Wars”!
  • Bill Fleck, who is the author of several books, including “Gimme a Show,” a biography of James Pankow, trombonist and founding member of the band Chicago.

The festivities will take place on Sunday, December 5, from 12-4 p.m. at the Sullivan County Museum and Cultural Center, located at 265 Main Street, Hurleyville. Masks will be required to be worn. For more information, please call 845-434-8044, or visit https://www.facebook.com/scnyhistory.
