Monticello, NY – For the fifth consecutive time, the Sullivan County Manager’s Office and Budget Office have earned the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA).
“This award is the highest form of recognition in governmental budgeting and represents a significant achievement by your organization,” GFOA Technical Services Center Director Michele Mark Levine wrote in congratulations to Sullivan County Manager Josh Potosek.
A panel of judges reviewed more than 1,600 budgets submitted to the GFOA, including Sullivan County’s version for the 2020 fiscal year. They judged the budgets on their excellence as policy documents, financial plans, operations guides and communications devices, deeming Sullivan’s to be “proficient” in all four categories.
“To have once again won this award from a major national professional association is testament to the fine work our Budget Office undertakes every day,” Potosek affirmed. “The rigorous attention to detail and our focus on staying responsible to taxpayers were noticed by the judges, and we aim to continue that record of achievement in 2021’s budget, soon to be released for legislative and public review.”
“Though my term started after the 2020 County Budget was adopted, I am working closely with the County Manager and the Budget Office team on the 2021 version, and I can affirm that they aim for the kind of excellence County taxpayers expect and deserve,” said District 5 Legislator George Conklin, who chairs the Management and Budget Committee of the Legislature. “We are typically the only rural county in New York to achieve this level of excellence, and that says something.”
