Take the October 3 Exam to Become a Notary Public

Monticello, NY – The Sullivan County Clerk’s Office and the NYS Division of Licensing Services invite anyone 17 and over to take the Notary Public Test this October 3, 2019 at 11:30 a.m. at the Government Center in Monticello.

“A Notary Public fills a crucial role in the community, serving as the lawfully required impartial witness to the signing or certification of certain forms like deeds, wills and powers of attorney,” explains Deputy Sullivan County Clerk Russell Reeves. “In addition to serving this important purpose, notaries can charge for their services, making this license a valuable source of income for local households, as well.”

Seating is limited to 50 people, however, so those seeking to take the exam should register as soon as possible by emailing Russell.reeves@sullivanny.us or calling 845-807-0411. No registrations will be accepted on the exam day itself.

Exam topics include license law, general terms, and information related to the duties and functions of a Notary Public as outlined in the Notary Public License Law booklet available from the Department of State (www.dos.ny.gov/licensing/notary/notary.html). Cost of the one-hour exam is $15 (check or money order only, no cash). All exam results are pass/fail – no numerical scores will be given. Test participants will receive results by mail, and if successful, participants will be invited to apply for the State license, which costs $60 to obtain.
