Livingston Manor, NY – In order to accommodate the significant cleanup efforts ongoing in and around Livingston Manor, Sullivan County’s Rockland Transfer Station will extend its hours of operation from the usual 2:45 p.m. to 5 p.m. this Thursday, November 2.
Flooding in the early hours of October 30 damaged homes and businesses in the downtown area, ruining furniture, carpeting, fixtures and electronics.
“Residents and businesspeople need to throw away these items quickly and hassle-free,” said District 7 Legislator Joseph Perrello, who chairs the Public Works Committee. “This was the quickest way we could help them accomplish that, and it reflects our dedication to aiding our communities.”
“Livingston Manor has wearily gotten used to these floods, but that doesn’t make them any easier to deal with,” noted District 3 Legislator Mark McCarthy, who represents that part of Sullivan County. “If we can do something to lighten the burden once again placed on Manor’s downtown, I’m all for it.”
“We’ve informed the Governor’s Office of the situation, and I’ve reached out to the Army Corps of Engineers to see if long-planned flood mitigation efforts can be sped up,” explained Legislature Chairman Luis Alvarez. “There’s more that can be done in Livingston Manor – let’s not wait until the next flood.”
“Our Division of Public Works and every other County department stands ready to assist Livingston Manor and the Town of Rockland in whatever way we can,” affirmed County Manager Josh Potosek. “Recovering from any kind of flooding in your home or business is difficult, and extending the Rockland Transfer Station hours on Thursday is one way we can make life just a little bit easier for our citizens.”
“We appreciate the County’s outreach, not only in extending transfer station hours but in the quick response of 911, Sheriff’s Office and Public Works personnel during the worst of the flooding,” said Rockland Town Supervisor Rob Eggleton. “Town of Rockland residents have always pulled together in the face of trouble, and this time is no different. We’re just glad the County is there for us, as well.”
