Beach is Closed - Swimming is Prohibited.

Park grounds are open for passive recreation.

Public boat launch is open. 

Picnic areas, playground,  pavilions and restrooms remain closed.

Boat rentals are closed.

Groups greater than 10 people are Prohibited.

Lake Superior State Park consists of 1409 acres and features Lake Superior and Chestnut Ridge Pond.    The park is operated by the County of Sullivan pursuant to a Cooperative Agreement  with the  Palisades Interstate Park Commission.

The County operates two areas of the park:

Lake Superior's beach area (seasonal fee) features a swimming area, sand beach, picnic areas with grills, group picnic pavilion (fee) rowboat and paddle boat rentals, boat launch (electric motors only), vending machines, restrooms, shower/changing area, fishing (New York State DEC fishing license required), volleyball court and playground (ages 5-12).  

The beach area operates for swimming on weekends and holidays from Memorial Day weekend through June. Daily beach operation commences the last week of June through Labor Day.  The beach hours are 9:00 am - 7:00 pm unless otherwise stated.  The park grounds are open Dawn - Dusk.

Lake Superior's dam picnic area features picnic tables and grills, a group picnic pavilion (fee), portable toilet facilities and fishing access to Lake Superior (DEC fishing license required).  Hours Open: Dawn to Dusk

The entire park is open year round. Hunting is permitted for Whitetail Deer, Bear, and Turkey in designated areas (New York State DEC hunting liscense required).  Ice fishing (no gas ice augers), hiking and sleigh riding are permitted at the park.  Camping is not permitted.  Please contact the Sullivan County Parks and Recreation Department for further details.


There is a per person fee at the beach area from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day as follows:

  • Day Pass : $5.00 per person - (Currently suspended due to beach being closed)
  • Children Under 3 Years Old : Free
  • Veterans who present a valid ID issued through the Sullivan County Return the F.A.V.O.R. program: FREE
  • Golden Park Program: NYS Senior Citizens 62 & over: FREE (Weekdays ONLY excluding Holidays)
