Monticello, NY – For the eighth time in a row, the Sullivan County Budget Office has earned the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA).
A panel of judges reviewed well over 1,000 budgets submitted to the GFOA, including Sullivan County’s version for the 2023 fiscal year. They judged the budgets on their excellence as policy documents, financial plans, operations guides and communications devices, deeming Sullivan’s to be “outstanding” in all four categories.
“Staff should be commended for their hard work,” wrote the judges.
“I very much agree with the judges,” Sullivan County Manager Joshua Potosek affirmed. “A budget as large and as complicated as the County’s is challenging to put together and sometimes even more so to convey to the public. The staff of our Budget Office, while small, is committed to doing what it takes to ensure transparency and accountability in presenting the County’s key financial document.”
“The words of the judges are testament to the goal of excellence in our Budget and County Manager offices,” said District 5 Legislator George Conklin, who chairs the Management and Budget Committee of the Legislature. “We are usually the only rural county in New York to achieve this, and taxpayers can rest assured that we’re paying very close attention to the funds they give us.”
