Warming Centers Shutting Down for Season

Monticello, NY – Sullivan County will close its two warming shelters this weekend in Liberty and Monticello:

  • United Methodist Church, 170 North Main Street, Liberty
  • Ted Stroebele Recreation Center, 2 Jefferson Street, Monticello

These facilities will remain open to anyone from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m. through and including the night of Saturday, April 15.

“While this past winter was relatively mild, we still had significant usage of both shelters,” noted Sullivan County Health & Human Services Commissioner John Liddle. “Almost 150 people used the Liberty shelter for a total of close to 1,000 stays since it opened last November. Monticello opened in December and served 123 people for just under 500 stays overall.”

This weekend will mark the close of these shelters for the season, but the Sullivan County Department of Social Services stands ready to assist. Those in need of temporary assistance should call 845-292-0100.
