Community Development and Housing

Community Development is the process of building active and sustainable communities based on social justice and mutual respect.  One of the most important aspects of Community Development is the participation of members of the developing community.  Together, citizens can discuss the potential changes their community faces and the opportunities or threats such changes pose. They can establish a vision of what their community should be.  The Division of Planning offers technical assistance and funding to help communities achieve these visions.

The Sullivan County Division of Planning, Community Development and Real Property offers several programs designed to improve the overall quality of the unique communities of the County.

County of Sullivan RESIDENTS please take notice that the County of Sullivan is considering preparing an application for a Community Development Block Grant under the NYS Homes and Community Renewal’s Office of Community Renewal (OCR).
The County of Sullivan will hold a public hearing on November 15, 2018 at 9:55 AM at the Legislative Hearing Room in the Government Center, 100 North Street, Monticello for the purpose of hearing public comments on the County of Sullivan residents’ community development needs, and to discuss the possible submission of one or more Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) applications for the 2018 program year. The CDBG program is administered by the New York State Office of Community Renewal (OCR), and will make available to eligible local governments approximately $45 million for the 2018 program year for housing, economic development, public facilities, public infrastructure, and planning activities, with the principal purpose of benefitting low/moderate income persons.
